Muscat, Oman is a city on the southeast coast of Arabia, and is the largest city in the Sultanete of Oman, as well as its capital. It is one of the Middle East's oldest cities, around since the 2nd century A.D. It was once known for its export of frankincense, of which some 3,000 pounds were exported every year to Greece, Rome, and the Mediterranean. Oman was ruled by successive imams (meaning "leader") and sultans.
Portuguese explorer Vasco de Gama put Muscat "on the map" when he happened upon the region on his way to India. In 1507, he returned and the Portuguese armies invaded, making Muscat a trading post and naval base of operations. One hundred and forty years later, the Portuguese were defeated and driven out, and the empire of Oman grew and prospered. |

i stayed in this hotel while i was in the FRCS examination. the location is near the hospital, central and elegant. the drawback was the food (so i ate in the hotel nextdoor) and the discotech in the floor.
We had stayed at Golden Oasis hotel for 5 nights while on the first time trip to Muscat. We were not expecting anything luxurious as we were looking for a standard budget hotel but with adequate facilities and service. So there it was Golden Oasis. The hotel ...
